Amos screens are absolutely *not* promotable via software.
You can write your Amos programs to use higher res screens if you've got
the right extension (I think?), but you've still got the problem of using
Amos itself.... (maybe someone could write an editor that can load/save
Amos progs that runs under decent screen modes?)
When I was looking to buy a graphics card, I thought I might have to give
up Amos, but then I saw the Picasso IV, which has a video pass-through,
and scan-doubles all the PAL/NTSC video screens to VGA spec.
I'm now using Amos on my PicassoIV equipped A4000, with no problems.
Other graphics cards aren't so fortunate, though.
You can also buy 'flicker-fixers' which scan-double your display for
use with a VGA monitor. They were quite cheap for the A2000, and the
A3000 has one built in, but if you're using an A4000, they currently
cost more than [I think] they're worth.
If you're using an A1200, I don't think you're going to have much
luck finding any suitable hardware scan-doublers.
Well, good luck with it.....
Simon Champion.
